SGA commits four PVL draft picks to bolster Alas Women pool

The move aligns with the country’s preparations for the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, which the Philippines will host.

“Strong Group Athletics unequivocally expresses its full support for the national team in view of the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, which the country will host in 2029,” SGA said.

“SGA fully recognizes the magnitude of this once-in-a-lifetime event and reaffirms its commitment, alongside the rest of the Philippine volleyball community, to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the success of the country’s hosting,” it added.

The organization, however, did not provide further details, but said it will shoulder the expenses, salaries, allowances, and incentives of the four selected players until after the world championship.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) had previously floated the idea of an Alas Draft months ago, which would have been integrated into the PVL Draft as part of efforts to streamline the selection of players for inclusion in the national team pool.

However, the PVL has maintained that it will stick to its existing guidelines for the upcoming draft, with teams retaining the right to select players under the current system.
