San Beda boosts frontline with Lars Fjellvang transfer

San Beda received an added boost to its frontline for NCAA Season 103.

Six-foot-seven Filipino-Norwegian big man Lars Fjellvang has decided to transfer from Ateneo de Manila University to San Beda University.

Fjellvang made his decision on Tuesday night during a meeting in Cebu attended by Red Lions team manager Jude Roque, head coach Yuri Escueta, and San Beda Boosters Club representative Atty. Jiboy Cabochan and his son Jobi Cabochan.

For Roque, securing Fjellvang’s commitment is a significant addition to their campaign, especially with Bismarck Lina and Menard Songcuya set to graduate after this season.

“Lars is a welcome addition to the Red Lions family. I think he’s a good fit for our team, especially since our basketball system is very similar to Ateneo’s,” said Roque.

“He can be a valuable inside specialist for us next year, especially with Bismarck and Menard set to graduate from our program after this coming season.”

Fjellvang was part of the CESAFI championship core of Sacred Heart School–Ateneo de Cebu two years ago.

After their run with the Magis Eagles, Fjellvang, along with Jelo Rota and Aiden Cainglet, committed to join Ateneo for college.

In what turned out to be his lone season with the Blue Eagles, Fjellvang appeared in 10 games.

He now gets a fresh start with San Beda under another former Blue Eagle in Yuri Escueta.

“We are thankful that he joined San Beda and believes in our program,” said Escueta.

“We see true potential in Lars, and we will make sure he can be his best self both inside and outside the court with us.”

Just 19 years old, Fjellvang still has four years of eligibility left in the NCAA.
