Omar John leaves NU for Japan 3×3 squad

Omar John has made a surprising move to turn professional, leaving National University.

The 6-foot-10 Gambian center has signed with Japanese 3×3 team Okayama, marking an unexpected development for the Bulldogs’ program.

The move comes despite the UAAP’s new rule starting in Season 89, allowing schools to field two foreign student-athletes on their roster, with one designated as a reserve.

NU was initially expected to feature both John and 6-foot-10 Malian center Mo Diassana.

John played a key role in the Bulldogs’ UAAP Season 88 campaign, averaging 8.13 points and 7.69 rebounds across 16 games.

He also appeared in two games for NU in the Asiabasket NSAC, but was no longer seen with the team after their match against the Perpetual Altas last April 26.

With John’s departure, Diassana is set to serve as NU’s primary big man for UAAP Season 89.
