‘Batch 122’ set for final UAAP run

‘Batch 122’ set for final UAAP run

“Batch 122” will play out their fifth and final year for De La Salle University.

Speaking during a courtesy call to La Salle president Bro. Bernie Oca, FSC at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall in the Taft campus, captain Shevana Laput confirmed that they will return to the Lady Spikers for the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

“As for we wish to continue this legacy, we want to stay for one more year,” said the Season 88 captain during the courtesy call with La Salle campus journalists on site.

She was joined by batchmates Angel Canino, Amie Provido, and Lyka De Leon.

This means La Salle’s bid for back-to-back championships remains in full swing, with the entire Season 88 title-winning squad still intact.

For their part, “Batch 122” is gunning for a third title, having already secured the Season 85 crown during their rookie year.

During the Lady Spikers’ end-of-campaign tradition “Archer’s Stance,” after claiming the Season 88 title last Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, none of the players went to the center, signaling that the seniors were staying despite denying it to the media after the game.

The Lady Spikers would inform Bro. Oca, FSC on Tuesday — three days after their championship win — of their decision to return.

La Salle capped off a historic campaign by sweeping the tournament at 16-0, including back-to-back straight-sets victories over then-defending champion National University in the Finals.

Laput, who joined the Lady Spikers without prior competitive volleyball experience, was named Finals MVP after averaging 15.5 points in the two-game finale, including 20 points in Game 2.

Canino, the Season 85 Rookie of the Year, earned her third Best Outside Spiker plum this season, while Provido secured her second consecutive Best Middle Blocker recognition.

Laput also claimed her second straight Best Opposite Spiker award, while De Leon was previously named Season 87 Best Libero.
