Alyssa Solomon withdraws from PVL Draft in gamble, eyes overseas deal while serving Alas

Later in the evening, three-time NCAA Best Libero Lara Mae Silva and setter Natalie Estreller, both from Letran, also withdrew from the draft to focus on the national team.

According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, several European clubs have expressed interest in Solomon, although no formal offer has been finalized.

By pulling out of the draft, Solomon gains additional flexibility as she pursues opportunities abroad.

Had she remained in the draft and gone unselected by foreign clubs, she would have been tied to a PVL team.

Instead, she can now focus on trying out for overseas clubs while continuing her commitment to the national team.

However, the move also carries risk.

If she fails to secure a contract overseas, her immediate professional future beyond the national team window remains uncertain, with no domestic league placement lined up once Alas Pilipinas’ commitments conclude in September.

Still, Solomon is expected to receive financial support from Alas Pilipinas’ backers throughout the year, but it will be much smaller than a standard PVL contract.

Ditto for Silva and Estreller.

Solomon was among the final prospects to declare for the draft.

Given her decorated collegiate career with National University and her one-year stint in Japan’s SV.League with Osaka, she was widely regarded as the favorite to be selected first overall.

Galeries Tower currently holds the No. 1 pick in the June 3 draft at Novotel Manila Araneta City.

For now, Solomon will immediately head to Candon City to join Alas Pilipinas as the national team prepares for the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup, scheduled from June 6 to 14.
